Bio Resin GRP Environmentally Friendly Solutions

GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), commonly known as fiberglass, already has many environmental benefits over traditionally manufactured products using materials such as steel and wood. It’s durability and adaptability to changing environmental conditions increases longevity and significantly reduces waste.

However at AllScope Projects, our dedication to research, testing and enabling product evolution to support our clients, has enabled us to produce new Bio resin GRP solutions.

What is Bio Resin GRP?

Bio Resin, also known as bioplastic or bio-based resin, is a type of resin derived from renewable biomass sources such as plants, algae, or waste materials. This reduces the dependency on fossil fuels and by harnessing renewable resources, bio resin contributes to a more sustainable and circular economy, while addressing concerns about climate change and plastic pollution.

 

What are the benefits of adopting a bio resin solution?

  • Shortages and price volatility in traditional synthetic materials derived from crude oil make production and financial planning highly problematic. A shift to bio resins reduces this significantly.
  • There is no loss in performance in final production of a bio resin-based part.
  • There is no need to invest in adaptive equipment in the manufacturing process, therefore there is little to no impact on manufacturing cost.
  • As discussed by Beth Turner and Beth Massey in Electrolube’s extensive research “the future looks extremely promising for bio-based resins, which bring distinct performance advantages in harsh environments, including underwater applications as well as hot and humid operating environments.”

 

What type of products would benefit from Bio Resin GRP?

AllScope Projects manufacture GRP solutions for a wide range of industries and we are supporting our clients in the development of their products through Bio Resins in the following fields:

Transport:
GRP is the preferred material in the production of parts for vehicles. Durability and longevity of parts is increased in comparison to traditional materials, whilst the weight of vehicles is reduced, thereby reducing carbon emissions of the transport mode when in use. Phenolic GRP fire and heat resistance can vary from extreme lows to extreme high temperatures and have a low toxic fume and low smoke emissions, particularly
important on public transport or where there are high volumes of people.

Marine:
Bio Resin GRP is well-suited for marine applications such as boat hulls, decks, and underwater structures. Its resistance to corrosion and water impermeable structure, protects internal components, increases longevity and improves performance. It’s lightweight properties increases the vessels fuel efficiency and massively reduces operating costs.

Bathing, Sanitary, Hygiene Parts and Environments:
GRP is electronically non-conductive, meaning electricity cannot pass through it. This makes it a safe solution in wet environments, such as commercial and domestic bathrooms / wet rooms. GRP is also resistant to moisture, meaning it is watertight, will not fade and is easy to wipe clean and maintain.
