Apprentice Heidi Qualifies & Thanks AllScope For Support And F1 Job.
AllScope Projects and GRP / Carbon Fibre Laminator Heidi Dugdale are celebrating this month as Heidi has qualified with Distinction in Lean Manufacturing Level 2 Apprenticeship and secured a permanent job role.
However there is a twist in what happened next. On qualifying, Heidi secured a permanent full time role and continued her development with AllScope Projects. Then out of the blue, a job offer arrived as a Carbon Fibre Laminator with an F1 (Formula One) parts manufacturer in Oxford. As an F1 fanatic, this was an opportunity Heidi could not turn down.
Heidi explained “I joined AllScope Projects when I started my Apprenticeship in 2020, which was just a couple of months into the pandemic lock down.”
“AllScope gave me an amazing opportunity to apply my theoretical learning into hands on, practical manufacturing. I have had the chance to work in almost every department on the ‘shop floor’ giving me experience in the manufacture of Carbon Fibre, GRP and Phenolic GRP, working in glass strand fibre cutting, production, mould making, lamination, paint spray booth and quality control. I also understand more about Lean manufacturing and in particular how to recognise and reduce waste at any opportunity, whether that be through time, processes, materials, over production / processing or tool management.”
“Doing my Apprenticeship through lockdown meant I didn’t get to meet and exchange ideas my fellow students in person, as most of the learning was online. Once it was safe and legal to do so, AllScope had the safety measurements in place to allow us to return safely back into work, which played an important part in me being able to interact with people, which of course was integral to my learning and development.”
“Michael and the team have been great to work with and their support has been invaluable. They have taught me so much in a sector that I love, giving me the opportunity to learn all about composite materials, production, finishing, quality, repair and Lean manufacturing processes”.
“Females may be very much underrepresented within the manufacturing sector, but not at AllScope Projects. There is a good gender mix ratio, that all work together as a team. AllScope welcomed me in, and the management team trusted in me through my Apprenticeship. To know that I am now moving into the Formula 1, a subject that that I have a passion for, with AllScope’s blessing is heart warming and testament to the great values the business holds in people and their continued development”.
AllScope Projects Michael Davies said “Heidi has done really well since joining us through local training provider North Lancs Training Group. We were delighted when she qualified and we were able to offer a permanent role”.
“It maybe bittersweet that Heidi is now moving onto another business, but to know that we provided the platform to learn and fulfil an ambition is great to see and we wish her the very best”.
Russell Large, Apprenticeships Manager at North Lancs Training Group added “It was a pleasure to guide Heidi through the final part of her qualification and gain a well-deserved distinction. She has shown good knowledge in all areas of her chosen trade and would like to wish her all the best in the future”.
